In my 30s I learned how to learn
I learned (literally) F all at school.
- Never did homework
- Listened to music in every class
- And was effectively left to rot
As a teenager (with ADHD) perhaps my brain wasn't 'ready' to learn.
In my 20s I held onto this belief — that I couldn't learn anything that didn't come easily. So I stayed in my lane.
There were several subjects I REALLY wanted to master:
- Spanish
- Physics
- Maths
But I avoided them all because I was stuck in this pattern that "I can't learn HARD things because my brain doesn't work like that".
I'm now realising that narrative was total BS.
As I get older I'm finding it MUCH easier to learn.
Yet, I don't think this has anything to do with how my brain works. I think it's the story I've been telling myself. A story that was woven into my psyche as a teenager.
A story that I can't learn.
I'm happy to say that for the past few months I've been teaching myself Spanish. And to my shock, my progress is rapid.
Can you relate?
